From live music in Alexandria to touring embassies, dancing through Latin Restaurant Week, and watching tiny dogs race in costume, you’ve got no excuse to stay indoors. Summer Things to Do Around the DMV - This Weekend feels like it's here and I'm not mad about it.

Here’s what’s on tap this weekend:

#1 Live Music Fridays at Lost Boy Cider

Kick off your weekend with live tunes, and a relaxed vibe.

I don’t even drink, but I love going to cideries like this one. Laid-back, and always a good vibe. Start your weekend with live music at Alexandria’s own Lost Boy Cider. This local rock band based out of Alexandria plays on the first Friday of every month.

  • Friday, May 2

  • 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

  • Lost Boy Cider, Alexandria, VA (317 Hooffs Run Dr. Alexandria)

#2 Flower Mart at the National Cathedral

Spring flowers, live music, and a carousel on the Cathedral grounds.

This long-running D.C. tradition turns the Cathedral grounds into a festive garden party, with plants, artisanal goods, live performances, and rides for kids. It’s a great mix of history, charm, and family-friendly fun.

  • Friday–Saturday, May 2-3

  • 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM Fri | 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Sat.

  • Washington National Cathedral, Washington, D.C.

#3 Around the World Embassy Tour

Visit over 50 embassies in one day and no passport needed.

One of D.C.’s most unique events, this tour lets you step inside embassies across the city for cultural performances, food tastings, art displays, and more.

  • Saturday, May 3

  • 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Various locations across Washington, D.C.

#4 Latin Restaurant Weeks (DMV Edition)

Explore Latin-owned restaurants with special menus + deals.

This two-week celebration highlights Latin-owned restaurants across the region with chef specials, prix fixe menus, and feature dishes. A great excuse to try something new or revisit an old favorite.

#5 Running of the Chihuahuas at The Wharf

Yes, it’s real. The Wharf is hosting its annual Chihuahua races, complete with dog-friendly vendors, adoptable pups, food, and hilarious photo ops. Even if you don’t have a dog, this is a fun one to spectate.

  • Saturday, May 4

  • 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

  • District Pier, The Wharf, Washington, D.C.
